OUR MOST RECENT NEWSLETTER UPDATE

May 8, 2008

Dear Friends,

We are excited to tell you about our recent affiliation with Mission Impact! We are working in another area of service with children along side the staff of Vida y Esperanza (Life and Hope) in Santa Lucia Milpas Altas, Guatemala. Vida y Esperanza, a school for preschoolers through ninth grade, has provided this community in central Guatemala with a Christian-based education option for nine years.

Our Mission Impact responsibilities include teaching Bible principles and training students to share the Gospel using their different gifts and talents. We also meet with the parents on a regular basis to share our vision with them as well as encourage principles of healthy family living. Our hope is to provide a foundation for the parents and children to communicate with each other while reinforcing lessons learned at Vida y Esperanza.

We have been working with Escuela Vida y Esperanza since early January and our responsibilities have expanded to include Bible study and worship with the teachers as well as teaching Hebrew dance with the students. Gilma and Jen May (the English teacher) meet with a group of mothers every other Wednesday for an afternoon of baking and Bible study.

Recent news from our family: In December our daughter Rode (17) returned safely from her trip to Central America with YWAM. She attends the University Mariano Galvez studying Architecture. Rode has the privilege of participating in the surveying process for the newly acquired land at EVE as well as the children’s evangelism program. Our oldest daughter, Ilse (19) has completed a year working and serving at the Orphanage and School Casa Bernabe. She attends University Landivar to study Physical Therapy and works at Proximos Pasos Girls School in Santa Maria de Jesus. Andrea (15) passed her 4th grade at the Special Ed School successfully. For many years Math was a big problem for her. This year, Math was her highest score! Praise the Lord! Dena (9) and NoĆ© (7) also are doing very well at school. They are in 3rd grade and 1st grade respectively. The younger children are able to do their homework at EVE while waiting for mom and dad to finish their day.

Hugo and Gilma continue to work with the children from our neighborhood in Antigua three days a week in the afternoons. However, we are looking for a rental home in Santa Lucia Milpas Altas so that our family can more readily participate in school and ministry activities without dependence upon bus transportation. Our focus would then move to increased availability to the parents, teachers, and children from Santa Lucia who seek counsel and encouragement.

Hugo is completing a construction project and looking for another in order to supplement our income during this time of transition. Our monthly financial need is $2000. It is our hope that there will be funding sufficient to be available full time to Mission Impact/Escuela Vida y Esperanza. We thank God for his faithfulness in providing for our basic needs and our health also. He continues to strengthen us daily.

We appreciate your friendship and support and trust you share our enthusiasm about this opportunity to continue investing in the Kingdom of God. We are anxious to answer any questions you have about this work and/or Mission Impact. Please check out our biographical sketch on http://www.missionimpact.com/ under the heading, Our Missionaries, and let us hear from you.

May the Lord continue to bless you richly wherever you are.

Sincerely,
Hugo y Gilma Caballeros
