Dear Friends,
We just want to THANK you for all your prayers!!
As we mentioned in our last newsletter, we were waiting to have meetings with the Board of Funproni, Casa Bernabé, to talk about the Project that has been in our hearts to help with the teenagers who turn 18 years and older who are in need of going out to live by themselves and adapt to the real and actual society.
Those kids, we want to help.
The reason we came back to work in Casa Bernabé, at first, we did not understand, but we wanted to be obedient to God’s direction in our hearts. Now we understand why we had to work with girls this year. We have definitely decided to start our Project with girls. There will be opportunity for some boys in the near future, but in 2010, we would like to start with a few girls living with us in Antigua. This Youth Project that has been in our hearts for several years, will be working as a branch of Casa Bernabé, like a “House of Transition”
This will be for the older girls (and boys, later) who are not ready to live in normal society yet. However, they need to find a job, and maybe study a career. Some of them are completely orphans, some of them have few relatives but cannot live with them again, and some of them do want and might go back to their families, but the family has such a low income that would never afford paying a career for them, (perhaps not even letting them to purchase school supplies or other necessary things). Many of these families do not really care their kids can study to have better opportunities in life.
For this reason, Hugo and I are seriously considering to “adopt” them in our family for a period of time, one year or two, or maybe three, expecting they are more mature and responsible at work and church and everywhere, making good decisions.
We are still praying over a name for this extension of Casa Bernabé, this “house of transition”.
We have a name in mind, and we want to share it with you, but even if the name changes, the vision is the same.
Some of these kids express that they would like to help their relatives as soon as they can, but first, they want to study. They even dream attending the University. God willing!
We visualize them as the best workers, best students, best servants of God, even missionaries!
After a while, another group of students can come to live with us in the Mission Field.
One of our desires is to give each one of them a Diploma with the name of the Mission, at the end of their training. Please read the attached document to have a better idea about our short or long-term goals we have for them.
We want to share to you some important things about this Project.
Members in the Board of Casa Bernabé have said that they will be sending the kids as soon as
- We find a part time job for each one of them.
- We find the person or family interested in supporting them with Education.
- We have the house (and rooms) ready for them to accommodate.
In November, we will have vacation and we will be talking to different people and friends who would give them a part time job, hopefully near our house. Please help us pray for that, too.
We do not know yet which girls from Casa Bernabé will be with us, because it depends on how soon we find the persons interested in helping in this specific need.
For now, we would like to communicate it to all of you, and to let you know about our actual needs:
1. We need to find the funds to pay a bigger house. We will be renting our small house in Antigua as well, and this will help us partially.
2. We need to find sponsors who are interested in giving these teenagers an opportunity to study a “Trade” or a formal career for 1 or 2 years. This will enable them make more money in the (near) future.
Other than that, these kids may live with us, but they would only have a job and afford their basic expenses.
Of course, we are also finding a place for each one of them to volunteer 1–2 hours a week helping the needy.
For some girls we have found place at Las Gravileas School, where they can study to become a chef, a baker, an artist, a seamstress, etc.

Each student has to pay $30 monthly. (From Feb. to November) This includes transportation, copies and snack!, but not school supplies. The enrollment in the School is $10.
For this reason, we are now writing to all of you, Friends of Casa Bernabé, to ask you to consider if you would like to help us in any way.
Also, we want you to see the house that we would like to rent in San Juan Gascón, in January, it is only 3 minutes from the central park in Antigua. It has 6 dorms. This is the house we have found with the best price. Other houses have less rooms and are much more expensive.
On the terrace, there is place for a Cafeteria, that would work on Thursday and Friday evening, while our Bible studies.

It also has a place for Carpentry for Hugo to work and teach and carve on wood!
Please pray! and consider if you would like to:
· Be part of a great change in one of these teenagers lives.
· Be part of this Extension of Casa Bernabé in any way.
For those of you who would like more information, please e-mail at hcaballeros@gmail.com if you want to let us know your personal questions. Our Blog site contains the newsletter of September, in case you did not receive it.
We have NO words to express how blessed and thankful we have been with your friendship and prayers and encouragement you have expressed to us in different and special ways.
MAY GOD BLESS YOUR LIVES, AND FAMILIES AND JOBS AND HOME, ABOUNDANTLY!
In Jesus Christ,
HUGO AND GILMA CABALLEROS
